# 241 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Glad August is over! It was a hydrant (Michelle and EMO) but I did like Tony's thinking - a bat flying overhead! We had a couple of guesses for a dead animal and even a puppet. One follower has been placed on probation for seeing my self-portrait in that last shadow!

So, here is my final shadow, my way of saying thanks for putting up with me. . .

So what's happening for September? You'll know in about twenty-four hours!

# 240 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Sorry about the not very clear image of a socket/open-ended wrench! See how much nicer it looks when it's not a shadow.

Several thought it looked like a claw (EMO and Michael K) a few others saw a "grabby thing" (Deana and Mrs. Beth) but the  vast majority of you (Phil, Michelle, Peyton, Milt, Tony, Joani, and Joyce) saw through my weak shadow.

My LAST shadow and it couldn't have come any sooner!!

Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the Dunkin’ Donut drive-up windows and still make it to work on time!

# 239 - "The Shadow Knows!"

In our over-politically correct world, are we allowed to call yesterday's shadow, "monkey bars?" Mike Di had the solution - "sky bars!" One of my favorite candy bars when romping through the streets of Dorchester! So here is the non-edible sky bar. . .

The correct responders were Phil, Tony, Michael K., Deana, Mrs. Beth, Peyton, Mike P., and Mike Di.

Not one of my favorite shadows but I'm desperate (this was one difficult challenge).

Tomorrow (noun)
A mystical land where 99% of all human productivity, motivation, and achievement is stored.

# 238 - "The Shadow Knows!"

How time flies - August and the Shadows are almost part of my archives! Nice effort on yesterday's shadow (Mike P., Michael K., Michelle, Phil, Peyton, Milt, EMO, Tony, Deana, Pete, Joani, and Mike Di) - it was an antique carpenter's tool. I won't embarrass myself by trying to actually name it.

Partial credit to Mrs. Beth who thought it looked like a book shelf and Joyce for a plant hanger. Both quite acceptable!

For # 238, I have this shadow. . .

Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.

# 237 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Tripodians Unite! Yes, that was my tripod that all of you (Phil, Peyton, Tony, Carol, Michael K., Mike Di., Deana, Michelle, Joyce, Joani, EMO, and Milt) figured out!

So, here's #237, and it's not a gun!

Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

# 236 - "The Shadow Knows!"

That was a tough one but not for Michelle, Joani, Phil, Mike Di., Mrs. Beth, and Michael K.

A tire swing! This was one difficult shot to take as it is in a playground that is frequented by children who are carefully watched over by their parents who are looking for older men walking around with cameras! I got my shot and got out of there - still waiting for a visit from the WBPD asking about my intentions at the playground.

So here is a safer one (at least for me). . .

awkword, noun
A word that is difficult to pronounce.

# 235 - "The Shadow Knows!"

We had a pretty good split between a coffee grinder (Milt, Tony, Peyton, and Mike Di) and a pencil sharpener (Mrs. Beth, Phil, Joyce, Michael K., Mike P., Michelle, and Joani). And the winner is: no one! It's a sausage maker that puts out different sizes!

Nah, it was the pencil sharpener that was in one of my classrooms. share this picture with your children and grandchildren!

Here's an interesting one. . .

Another neologism gem - I think we all know someone who fits this:

Oughtacrat: Person who has half a mind to solve all the world’s problems with their brilliant ideas, one of these days!

#234 - "The Shadow Knows!"

No matter how I tried to mask its look - you people (EMO, Michelle, Mike Di., Michael K., Carol, Milt, Tony, Peyton, Joani, Mrs. Beth, Joyce, and Phil) knew your beer steins!

I guess I have the easy ones left in my shadow folder. . .

And, today's neologism is somewhat connected:

slackademic, noun
A perpetual student who prefers the safety and comfort of academic life over the trials and tribulations of the real world

# 233 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Bravo Michelle, Joyce, Joani, Mike Di., Mike P., Michael K., Mrs. Beth, Peyton, Tony, Phil, and EMO - you really know your candlesticks!!!!

Another fairly easy one, I trust. . .

corplaining, present participle
Griping, grousing, and otherwise complaining about the corporation you work for.

# 232 - "The Shadow Knows!"

I am IMPRESSED! Some of you are really analyzing these shadows and coming up with the correct image. Yesterday was a magnifying glass as Mike P., Tony, Joyce, and Mike Di. surmised. I know I wouldn't have figured it out! We also had fly swatter (Michael K.), Donut maker (Peyton), and Poached Egg Scoop (Joani). And, here it is. . .

You earned an easy one for today, so here it is:

anecdotage, noun
that advanced age where all one does is relate stories about "the good old days."

# 231 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Peter Pan? Goofy? Little girl playing, perhaps? Child on a swing? A kid dancing even? Maybe an Indian figure or a puppet? Could it have been someone jumping rope? All reasonable guesses for Shadow # 230 as Michael K., EMO, Mrs. Beth, Milt, Mike P., Peyton, Tony, Phil, Mike D., and Joani. . .

This is a papier-mâché clown that hangs from a set of three balloons in our living room. I think we bought it some thirty years ago (I know I'll be corrected as soon as my roommate reads this).

Good luck on this household object. . .

bad tongue day, noun
A day in which a person frequently mispronounces words and stumbles over sentences.

# 230 - "The Shadow Knows!"

A spring-loaded clothespin as was figured out by Joani, EMO, Peyton, Milt, Phil, Joyce, Michelle, Mike Di., Michael K., Tony, and Carol!

How about this one???

Neologism for Tuesday:

anecdotage, noun
that advanced age where all one does is relate stories about "the good old days."

# 229 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Well done my followers! It was an antique hand iron. As I mentioned, I had stopped in a museum in Seneca Falls, NY where there was a display of these from a company in that town.

Here is the one from my personal collection:

"Pressing their luck" were Michelle, EMO, Tony, Phil, Joyce, Joani, Mike Di., Mike P., and Mrs. Beth!

To go along with the early ironing device, an early clothes dryer:

Neologism for the day:
Hipatitis (n): Terminal coolness

Saturday, August 17, 2013

# 228 - "The Shadow Knows!"

It was a pitcher as in one that holds water! This one is special as it was part of a series of designer giftware that my daughter did for a company for which she worked. Here are the correct responders (Phil, Peyton, EMO, Tony, Milt, Michelle, Joani, and Joyce) and the color version of the shadow. . .

It's for decoration as it stands about four inches.

Now, how about this???

Inoculatte (v): To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

# 227 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Of course, it was the Statue of Liberty! And, since no one guessed incorrectly, I will not have to contact immigration for revocation of your citizenship! I salute Tony, Michelle, Deana, Joani, Mike P., Milt, Peyton, EMO, Phil, and Joyce. Joining us for the first time is LWR, welcome!

This shouldn't TOO hard, right.

As a bonus, I came across a few new weather vanes as well (yes, I'm still looking). This is a classic on the Bristol County Savings Bank in Raynham. No trivia - just enjoy it!

Our new word for the day:
Gargoyle (n), olive-flavored mouthwash

Thursday, August 15, 2013

# 226 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Well done, my blog-followers1 It was a bike, a dirt bike as Joani, Michelle, Milt, Joyce, Peyton, Mike P., and Mike Di knew. Here's the bike with a rider on it. . .

Anyone who misses this will be having their citizenship revoked!!

Today's Neologism:
PRIMATE (v): the act of removing your spouse from in front of the TV

# 225 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Yep, that was the Master Blogger himself! As I mentioned to several of you, I was trying to recreate the "one-armed suspect" from the fugitive. In reality I didn't want my camera to show so I tucked it close to my body - thus giving the one-armed appearance.
Keen eyes for Phil, Tony, Deana, Vicky, and Mike Di. who figured it was a self-portrait. Others went with the obvious, a one-armed person - EMO and Peyton. And then there were the Westerners who were taken in by the hat - Michelle and Joani with one farmer thrown in for good measure - Milt!

Today's Neologism in no way is to be considered a reflection of my followers. Your Bozone Layer is non-existent as evidenced by the plethora (love that word) of your great guesses!

Bozone  (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately,  shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

# 224 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Well, I did mention they generally come in pairs so shutters (Michelle), train tracks (Joyce), railings (Milt), and a swing seat (Mike Di.) all made great sense and could actually be the shadow. But Tony with some help from Debbie (his wife) came up with ramps!

This is is definitely too easy so don't miss out on it:

Sar-chasm (n): The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it

Monday, August 12, 2013

# 223 - "The Shadow Knows!"

I thought I had totally given that one away when I inadvertently added in the day's neologism - "relief" - I'm not sure if that helped any of you. Help or not, Milt, Phil, Mrs. Beth, Joani, Tony, Mike Di., and Mike P. were "reLEAVED" to know they were correct! Tony gets one demerit for posting his wife's, Debbie's response (a lung)!

This shadow is usually found in pairs. . .

Today's Neologism:
Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

# 222 - "The Shadow Knows!"

OUTSTANDING! Really thinking outside of the proverbial box with yesterday's guesses:
EMO: A pillar candle on a pedestal
Milt and Vicky; A tower
Tony, Joyce, and Carol: A statue
Michelle: Hot-air balloon
Joani: Ivy-covered pole
Phil: A monument
But the Gold Star is reserved for Michael K. who thought it looked like a lighthouse!

The shadow was shot from the top!

This is almost too easy. So enjoy the gimme. . .

Today's Neologism:
Relief: What trees do in the spring

# 221 - "The Shadow Knows!"

PEZ lovers unite - EMO, Carol, Deana, Phil, Michael K., Michelle, Tony, Mike Di., Pete, Peyton, Vicky, Joyce, Jeff W., and Mrs. Beth! You certainly know your PEZ. And no, it wasn't Pinocchio, it was. . .

The Snowman PEZ!
So, why are they called PEZ - German for peppermint (PfeffEminZ) - yes, I had to look that up!

Today's Neologism:
Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

# 220 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Of course it was a comb. As much as I tried to play around with my little light source, I could not get the shadow darker. Must be something I'm not doing right. Anyway, everyone who made a guess was on the mark - Phil, Peyton, Mike P., EMO, Milt, Deana, Michelle, Carol, Michael K., Mike Di., Joani, Joyce, and Tony.

Hint: It has been a very popular candy toy and equally popular as a collectible! Any ideas?

Frisbeetarianism (n.),  The belief  that, when you die, your soul flies up onto the roof and gets stuck there!
(Kind of luck Limbo???)

# 219 - "The Shadow Knows!"

The character's name is Kokopelli and he's a Native American spirit. If you have ever traveled in the Southwest, you have seen him! Being up on their Native american lore are Carol, Mrs. Beth, Michelle, Michael K., Joani, Tony, and Mike Di. Some of these guessed a Native American while two others somehow saw ME in this shadow!

This should an easy one for most of you!

Neologism for the day:
Balderdash (n.), a rapidly receding hairline.

# 218 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Okay, so #217 wasn't a true shadow but more like a reflection. Forgive me, I couldn't resist taking the shot and posting it. On board with the reflection were Tony, EMO, Milt, Michelle, Michael K., Deana, Joani, Joyce, Mrs. Beth, Mike P., Phil, and Mike Di.

Got a great chance last night to shoot a sailboat race and an incredible sunset off the Pocasset coast! Thanks, Carl!

Now, this is a REAL shadow. . .

Today's neologism:

Negligent (adj.), describes a condition in which you absentmindedly answer the door in your nightgown.

# 217 - "The Shadow Knows!"

Kite was the odds-on favorite by a vast majority of you (Phil, Peyton, Michelle, Joani, Joyce, Pete, Mrs. Beth, and Michael K.) and your weren't too far off. Others guessed a blanket, towel, and even butterfly! It was the shadow produced by a hang glider!

The Shadow must be on a guilt trip with this one. Enjoy it as I'm picking out the next one!!

Esplanade (v.), to attempt an explanation while drunk.

# 216 - "The Shadow Knows!"

FAN-tastic as Chris put it! And, a FAN-tastic effort by EMO, Phil, Michelle, Mike Di., Milt, Deana, Tony, Michael K., Joyce, Pete, Peyton, Mike P., and Chris S.

And, here is my Mickey Mouse cooling device for my study. . .

Here's a tough one:

Hint: It's not a boomerang or a UFO! Any reasonable answer accepted.

As for our daily neologism, this is one I can identify with:

Abdicate (v.), to give up all hope of ever having a flat stomach.
