Shoot Eighteen - "Haul of Fame III"

Brazil as Michelle, Peyton, Jim, Elaine, Mike, Joani, and Milt knew!

Realize I am a few days early but I couldn't let this picture wait until Monday. . .

"The Christmas Truck!"

Finishing up the year and the eighteenth shoot with this Fargo truck. With the greenery encompassing it and its bright red color, I immediately thought, "It's the Christmas Truck!"

Merry, Merry !

Where in the World?

Here are some interesting facts about various countries of the world. Just where would I be?

It has the largest population in the world, with over 1.3 billion people (1,343,239,923) as of July 2012.

It is the 3rd largest country by area at 9,706,961 sq km (3,747,879 sq miles).

Bordering countries include Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, India, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Vietnam.

It has the fourth longest river in the world, the Yangtze River, which reaches 5,797km (3,602 miles) in length. It also has the sixth longest, the Yellow River, stretching 4,667km (2,900 miles).

It is the second largest economy in the world
after the U. S.

It boasts of the largest man made structure in the world, stretching an incredible 8,850 kilometres (5,500 miles).

There is NO WAY you would not know this!!!

Very Interesting . . .

RIFF RAFF
The Mississippi River was the main way of traveling from north to south. Riverboats carried passengers and freight but they were expensive so most people used rafts. Everything had the right of way over rafts which were considered cheap. The steering oar on the rafts was called a "riff" and this transposed into riff-raff, meaning low class.

Coffee Break Time!

Leaving on a humorous note, I hope!

Kids today don't know how easy they have it ...
when I was young, I had to walk
nine feet through shag carpet
to change the TV channel ...

I may not be that funny
or athletic
or good looking
or smart
or talented …
Damn! I forgot where I was going with this ...

Shoot Eighteen - "Haul of Fame II"

A large Swedish meatball for Peyton, Milt, Mariann, Jim, Mike, Doris, Joani, Michelle, and Elaine! I met a new blog follower on Sunday, Mongkol - glad you are out there!

"Front Fender Area"

Still at the "Haul of Fame" - this was a tight crop of a vehicle. Then I converted it to monochromatic. I liked the look and feel of the end result! A quick second look tells me i should have flipped it.

Where in the World?

Here are some interesting facts about various countries of the world. Just where would I be?

It is the largest country in South America and is the 5th largest country in the world by both land area and population.

The official language spoken is Portuguese.

Independence was declared in 1822.

It shares a border with all South American countries except for Chile and Ecuador.

It covers 3 time zones.

The climate in the majority is tropical.

It is home to a wide range of animals, including armadillo, tapirs, jaguars and pumas.

There are around 2500 airports here.

Football (soccer) is the most popular sport with the national team consistently among the best in the world, winning the World Cup a record 5 times!

Very Interesting . . .

No piece of paper can be folded in half more than
seven (7) times.

Oh go ahead - I'll wait. . .

Coffee Break Time!

Leaving on a humorous note, I hope!

Shoot Eighteen - "Haul of Fame!"

Italy, of course! Only heard from Jim, Elaine, Mike, Milt, Joani, and Michelle.

"1920's Mack Truck"

Shoot Seventeen was the result of another member getting us to visit the "Haul of Fame" in nearby CT. Our contact person has set aside space on his sprawling junkyard for a museum of some of his prize possessions for the world of Mack.

After about a half-hour inside the building, I headed outside to see the rusting giants of our past! Trucks, buses, heavy-duty road construction equipment was among the growing vines and trees.

This 1920's Mack was the "welcome signage" as you entered the property. The final image went through a myriad of post-processing to get this look.

"Haul of Fame" was a photographer's dream shoot! Unfortunately, we had to pack up and leave. .

Where in the World?

Here are some interesting facts about various countries of the world. Just where would I be?

The land area is the 4th largest in Europe.

It shares a land border with its Scandinavian counterparts Finland and Norway, and is connected to Denmark by a bridge.

Forests cover over 50% of the country, there are also around 100,000 lakes and over 24,000 islands throughout the country.

It is renown for producing great pop bands and singers, including ABBA, The Cardigans, Ace of Base, Europe and The Hives. It is the world's 3rd largest exporter of music after the United States and United Kingdom.

A number of prominent manufacturing and technology company's were founded here including Ericsson, Volvo, Saab, Scania trucks, IKEA and Electrolux.

Ice hockey and football (soccer) are its main sports, other popular sports include handball, golf, gymnastics, athletics and cross country skiing.

HOT OFF THE PRESS

As the paper goes through the rotary printing press friction causes it to heat up.
Therefore, if you grab the paper right off the press it’s hot.
The expression means to get immediate information!

Shoot 17 - "South Station"

I did not hear from several regulars. For some reason the blog was not sent out until Wednesday.

That did not stop Michelle, Mike, Peyton, Mariann, and Joani from coming through with Peru. Newcomer, Steve T. joined the Peruvian bandwagon!

"Commuter Line, Sort Of. . .

One of the members of my camera club and a follower of this blog - Mariann - managed to get us permission to shoot within the confines of the busy transportation center. We were even allowed to use tripods!

The only no-nos were no tripods on the platforms and no definitive shots of people.

I packed away my fisheye lens to try to have some fun. Unfortunately the odd 8mm decided to protest the shoot. It had a constant reading of f/45 - not sure where this came from! So I made the best out of a difficult situation.

The rail car has been processed through various PhotoShop and NIK plug-ins to get this look. Just don't ask me how I did it!

Where in the World?

Here are some interesting facts about various countries of the world. Just where would I be? (No excuse for not getting this one!)

This small country is home to two very small independent states within its borders!

Countries that border it are Austria, France, Vatican City, San Marino, and Switzerland.

It has many earthquakes and volcanoes due to the conflict between the Eurasian and the African tectonic plates. Two volcanoes are a constant danger to humans due to their closeness to big cities.

This country was the birthplace of the Renaissance, which was a period of great cultural achievements in poetry, painting and architecture. Famous artists such as Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, and Leonardo Da Vinci were part of the Renaissance.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo and Maserati are well known car manufacturers.

The most popular sport here is football (soccer)as it has won four world cups, the last one being in 2006.

It hosted the 1960 Summer Olympic Games, but the Winter Olympics have been held here three times.

Many famous scientists and mathematicians were born and raised - Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, Alessandro Volta, and Fibonacci to name just a few.

Very Interesting . . .

BARRELS OF OIL

When the first oil wells were drilled they had made no provision for storing the liquid so they used water barrels. That is why, to this day, we speak of barrels of oil rather than gallons.
