Continuing in the Town of Fairhaven, We broke for lunch before descending on the Unitarian Memorial Church. This house of worship was home to amazing stained glass windows, fascinating stone sculptures, and well-preserved wood structures. I was immediately drawn to the ceiling in the meeting room. I walked around for quite some time to get just the right angle. With my trusty tripod in place, I got this shot.

has been described as one of the world’s greatest cities. It serves as the national capital of the its country, and is the second largest city in the country

It is, in fact, the political, educational and cultural hub of the country.

The ‘Peking Man’ has been documented as having been the earliest inhabitant here; his remains were found in the Dragon Bone Hill. The fossils date back to about 230,000-250,000 years old.

Today, the city is spread in an area of over 16,410 square kilometers, and has a population of about 15 million.

For lessons in the country’s history, your first stop should be the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is a huge palace complex that has housed the Emperors.

Check your guess with this tidbit: right across the Forbidden City is the Tiananmen Square. The Tiananmen Square is near the heart of the city, and also has the distinction of the being the largest open-urban square in the world.

"Fairhaven History"

My club's field trip coordinator managed to get those interested ample time to shoot in three of Fairhaven's architectural marvels - the town hall, the library, and the Unitarian Memorial Church.

I was fascinated by these windows that focused on the town's history. Among those featured were shipping, transportation, whaling, etc.

This city has always been a commercial and business district since the country became united during the 19th century.

Consequently, the mere mention of this city brings up instant associations with fashion, finance and capitalism.

Also famous for the Leonardi da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology that showcases many of da Vinci’s sketches, project designs and prototypes.

Helpful hint: Take stroll in the Brera district – this neighborhood is surrounded by the Corso Garibaldi. The area is also home to the Accademia di Brera  - an art academy which is reputed to be one of the best in the country.

Shoot Two - HDP Model Shoot

Amsterdam - a city I had the privilege to visit a few years ago! Heard from Michelle, Elaine, Peyton, Joani, Milt, Carol, Mike, and Mariann. Wasn't so hard, was it?

My second photo op of 2016 happened in February. I was at my camera club as we held our first (and, hopefully annual) model shoot. Jeff T. lined up four models for our posing. Jim, George, and Jeff brought their lighting set-ups.

Alex was one of the young people available for the evening. She had a great smile and a fantastic attitude - essential for model imagery.

A good majority of the members took advantage of having a model shoot in their own backyard!

it is the oldest and largest city on this continent.

people from all over the world come and settle down in this ‘harbor city.’

a visit here is incomplete without a visit to the beach. Bondi Beach is known the world over.

but if you thought that this was all, think again. It is an uber-modern city that has also impeccably preserved the remains of its past. The Rocks are one such example were the site of first European settlement in this city.

Little help needed? the city’s most famous structure, which is now its defining symbol, is its  Opera House. Thousands of people come to visit this structure.

2017 Shoot One - Bishop Bud

U S A - way TOO easy, right? Still out there - Peyton, Carol, Milt, Michelle, Elaine, Joani, Mike, and Mariann. Looks as if you people really enjoy punishment as most of you will be along for the ride in 2017. Thanks for sticking with me for another go-round!

All told, I have images from about thirty-plus photo opportunities. Some are family, some involved my church and the majority were shoots around New England.

Shoot One was early in January when newly-appointed Holy Cross priest, Bishop "Bud" Colgan came to celebrate Mass at Holy Cross Parish. My pastor called me about 8:45 AM to ask if I was attending the ten - you know the answer was not really but. . . - a quick shower, appropriate dress and my packed camera bag got me to the church in plenty of time (Bishop Bud thought the Mass was at 10:30).

Bishop Bud will be leading the parishes of Choisca, Peru.

founded in the 12th century, rose from being a small fishing village its  capital city and largest city.

Today, the city is home to seven of world’s top 500 companies.

The city plays host to over 4.2 million tourists annually.

Was home to Van Gogh for a brief period of time. A museum has been made in the city in then great painter’s honor.

Final clue to cement your guess - this city also boasts of the Anne Frank House – the wartime hiding place of the famous Jewish girl, who wrote a diary called, "The Diary of Anne Frank" recounting the wartime horrors of the Second World War

Another year of weekly blogging has come to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of sharing some of my favorites from the preceding year. Without your response, I would have quit a few years ago - you are the reason for my continuing this blog.

This image represents my favorite twelve images from 2015! Not an easy choice when I had over ELEVEN THOUSAND images from which to choose!

So if you want to quit, either do not respond to this week's country or send me an email that you have had enough.

2016 had no exotic locations as in the past but I did manage to get out at least twenty -five times to shoot various places, people, and objects.

No idea what we'll do for the quiz, yet.

Very Interesting . . .

SHOWBOAT
 These were floating theaters built on a barge that was pushed by a steamboat. They played small town along the Mississippi River . Unlike the boat shown in the movie "Showboat" these did not have an engine. They were gaudy and attention grabbing which is why we say someone who is being the life of the party is “showboating".
