Kelby Shoot aug 28

San Francisco as Elaine, Joani, Jim, Milt, Peyton, Tony, Mike, and Carol knew. (Michelle is beyond wifi connections in Croatia).

"Stone Mill"

Every year, Scott Kelby, PhotoShop Guru, conducts a worldwide photo day. Thousands of locations are available to get out and shoot. I had done two in Boston so I was looking for a change. Two members from my camera club were equally interested. I noticed there was a location in Lawrence, MA at a former mill. Since the weather forecast had rain scheduled, I thought this would be just right.

Mills abound! As we drove into the meeting spot I could not help to notice the block-long mills on both sides of the street. Some had been repurposed while others sat abandoned.

Stone Mill was a seven shot HDR as the conditions out the window were less than favorable.

This image was chosen by our group leader to represent our group in Kelby's International Photo Competition. I managed to win a year-long subscription to his magazine!

P.S. I just signed up for another trip to the Lawrence Mills - hopefully we'll be outside this time.

Where in the World?

Better get out the atlas as this year I will be featuring some of the more famous cities of the world! Here are some interesting facts about one of them. Just what city would I be visiting?

visit this city and its country during the dry season which is from December up to February.

Reunification Palace - this is a remarkable palace where time seemed to have stopped.

National History Museum is home for various country history memorabilia and antiques.

War Remnants Museum is where the items left after the war are kept. Upon touring around the museum, you will feel the terror that has happened during the war. It includes photographs, armories, tanks, jets, helicopters and many more.

many other destinations like the Notre Dame Cathedral, Quan Am Pagoda, and the Dam Sen Water Park dot this city

august 21 Flipper

Marrakesh! Remember, my esteemed panel of judges is looking for a city! Way to go... Mike, Carol, Tony, Joani, Peyton, Michelle, Milt, Jim, and Gulchin!

"Meet Flipper

Shoot Two at the King Richard's Faire and all is going well. Lots of photo ops around me - very colorful to say the least. This young lady could not escape my intent to shoot her. As you can see, there was no place for her to go! I had seen two men carry her to this spot earlier so she was there for the duration!

The camera was performing up to and beyond my expectations. Off to shoot the jousting event! For the next thirty minutes I moved around the ring for a better angle. And, then it happened! My camera stopped shooting!!!

I quickly found my fellow-Fujifilm friend to help determine the issue. Not the battery as I had ample back-up. No, it was the memory cards! In my haste to use slot II as the backup, I hadn't realized slot One was only 8GB while the backup was 32! I had filled my card and was done.

I'm sure I could have figured out some way to get around the issue but I had talked myself out of continuing and was heading for home to read the manual.

Lesson learned!!

the birthplace of United Nations

the second most densely populated major city in the country and the 13th most populous city in the country

city was founded on June 29, 1776,

after the WWII, the confluence of returning servicemen, massive immigration, liberalizing attitudes, along with the rise of the "hippie counterculture" the Sexual Revolution, the Peace Movement and other factors led to the "Summer of Love and the gay rights movement, cementing the city as a center of  activism.

Hopefully, you don’t need this: three-quarters of the city was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire!

aug 14 Sayonnara

Jerusalem - Michelle, Milt, Peyton, Mike, tony, Joani, Carol, Elaine, and Jim chimed in. . .

"Sayonnara"

Always a truly exciting shoot - King Richard's Faire! Adding to the fun was free admission and my new mirrorless camera!!! I was fortunate to be shooting along another Fujifilm owner who provided tips along the way. I was not about to get creative so I used the second slot in the camera as the back-up (this would prove to be my downfall later) and kept it on Aperture Priority. I had ample batteries (one in the camera and two others in my bag).

The setting was colorful with lots of activities go on all around me. This young lady was walking about with a bright red parasol which reflected through and onto her.

As is with all of the "actors" at the Faire, she was willing to stop and pose.

So, what happened? You'll have to wait until next week's blog to find out!

city is broken up into two distinct areas—Old City (also called Medina”), which houses the souks (or market area) and Modern City, which houses the commercial quarter (GuĂ©liz) and residential area (l’Hivernage) of the city.

often called the “Red City”, it requires sun protection and headgear all year long—even during winter. There are great summer events that you should not miss like its Arts Festival and Imilchil Marriage Feast.

should do here is the Maroc-Expe Rando Quad. Riding a quad bike or better yet, driving it on your own makes a great way to tour the city.

something more relaxed and low key, you should attend the La Maison Arabe Cooking Class Workshops.

Djemma El Fna, is the ancient square that lies at the heart of this city, and acts as a gathering point for locals, street performers—such as dancers, musicians, and snake charmers—as well as street food vendors.

Shoot Twenty-one - Simes House II

Lisbon - well done Milt, Tony, Joani, Carol, Michelle, Jim, and Elaine!!

"Simes Ghost of Present"

Back in the Simes House for a little photo fun! With little or no traffic on the upper level and low light, I had the perfect setting for some long exposures. Experimentation is the key here so having a digital camera was critical. I could look at my results and immediately know if I had the desired effect.

All it took was a twenty-second exposure with me standing there for about half of that time. About the fourth or fifth try and I got what I wanted. I did attempt to do this in other rooms but this one came out the best.

The city is held sacred by people of three faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is also referred to as the city of gold.

The Old City walls have been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

The Old City is also home to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

For the Muslims, the Noble Sanctuary (the same site as the Har Habayit) is extremely sacred.

the national museum, the largest museum in the country contains the ‘shrine of the book’, home to the Dead Sea scrolls.

This holy city is the capital city, and also its largest city in the country.

Gimme clue: the Western Wall and the Har Habayit are the two most important sites of Judaism. The Western Wall was built 2,000 years ago.
