Shoot XXII - "Bapst Library Revisited"

OR, it was! Carol, Elaine, Peyton, Milt, Mike Di., Beth, and Michelle knew as well! I was quite surprised when the gas attendant was adamant about me pumping my own gas! 

"Bapst Library"

I got an opportunity to return to Boston College's Bapst Library and could not miss out on it! This time I took my fisheye lens and had some fun walking around the iconic building.

This staircase needed to be captured with a wide angle and then converted into monochromatic. I think it succeeded on both parts!


Not only is the architecture within the Bapst a photographer's dream but their variety of stained glass windows kept me busy for quite some time! This series included notables from science, philosophy, religion, medicine, etc. Another room had windows that featured the crests of all of the Jesuit universities in the world!

The challenge was to get the right angle and the light.

For the past forty-plus years the Kennedys have been meeting on Christmas Eve. It started at my Father's apartment in Dorchester and moved into the suburbs when our Dad passed on. The above Christmas ornament has become my favorite to hang as it reflects upon my family - five boys and one girl!

"Borderland Reflection"

Members of the Stony Brook Camera Club recently began a tradition to meet the day after Thanksgiving. They reserve the small cabin and get a roaring fire burning. Several smaller bands of photographers head off onto one of the trails for whatever Mother Nature has to offer. The lake area was devoid of foliage but I found these interesting reflections in the water. Soon after we returned, the s'mores were being assembled, heated up and consumed.

The cabin was set aside for us again this year. you'll have to wait for next year's review to see what I found with my camera.

Shoot XIX - "Mt. Washington Hotel"

Pennsylvania - most of you (Carol, Jim W., Michelle, Joani, Mike Di, Peyton, and Elaine) nailed this one but there was some dispute about one of the claims given to the Keystone State. I have been using one source which, I am sure, has some inconsistencies.

"Italian Craftsmanship"

All throughout the Mt. Washington there were many examples of the craftsmanship of past workers. This ceiling carving was ornately detailed. I was totally impressed with the pride these early workers took in their work! At one time the entire interior of the resort was painted WHITE - everything that didn't move got a coating. Painstakingly, the new owners began the work to restore the hotel to its earlier prominence. One would NEVER know the place was whitewashed many years ago!

VA has many nicknames - "Old Dominion State," "Mother of the Presidents," etc. It is also one of the few states that can refer to itself as a commonwealth. Heard from Mike Di., Milt, Peyton, 
Jim W., Joani, Beth, and Michelle.

"Picture Window"

Still on Shoot #19 and the iconic Mt. Washington Resort! This was my view each time I walked down the staircase into the main lobby. The large picture window opened up to give a fabulous view of Mt. Washington!

We booked a guided tour of the hotel. I believe its history was more glorious than the structure itself!

Mountaineer State! Could not get one by Jim W., Mike Di., Joani, Elaine, Peyton, and Michelle! I think I drove through a small part of WV.

"Happy Forty-third!

For our anniversary last year, we decided to book lodging at the classic Mt. Washington Resort. We were greeted at the front desk with an upgrade to a suite! While in the elevator, we mentioned we were there for our anniversary. The lift operator took it upon himself to inform the front desk of our celebration. The result was this congratulatory gift in our room!

If you ever get the chance to visit this resort, do so!
