Shoot Six - "Garwin's Falls"

Czech (ing) in were Milt, Mike D., Elaine, Joani, Michelle, and Peyton!

"Garwin's Falls"

The third and final stop on our waterfalls trip was just across the state line into NH to town of Wilton. Garwin's Falls has an upper and lower section. The shot above was from the lower. I added my "black glass" filter which not only slowed the water flow but also smoothed out the pooling water at the base of the falls.

Where in the World?

Here are some interesting facts about various countries of the world. Just where would I be?

Has a population of over 29 million people (29,628,392) as of July 2013.

Country boasts of the Petronas Towers - twin skyscrapers in the capital city. They were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and are still regarded as the world's tallest 'twin' buildings.

Its currency is called the Ringgit. The word ringgit means "jagged", which refers to the jagged edges of Spanish silver dollars that used to be used in the region.

The world's largest discovered cave chamber (single room) is the Sarawak Chamber, in the Gunung Mulu National Park.

Popular sports played include football, badminton, field hockey, bowls, tennis, squash, martial arts, sailing, horse riding, and skateboarding.

Shoot Six - "Bear's Den Falls"

Jamaica, mon! Getting in on time for this past week were Milt, Elaine, Joani, Michelle, Jim, and Mike Di. I did see a couple of Bermuda guesses in the mix. . .

"Bear's Den Falls"

Continuing with the last May shoot, our next impressive waterfall was Bear Den's Falls in New Salem, MA. Finding the best angle to photograph these was a challenge as there were several different views that caught my attention. I opted for this tighter viewpoint - probably ten percent of the entire falls area.

The mosquitos? They all must have been back at Doane's as I do not remember swatting them away. However, I did not notice at first a little winged critter who traveled with me from Doane's. Somehow I managed to catch him between my polarizing filter and the lens. Needless to say he was squished dead but managed to ruin several images at this stop. After fifteen minutes I noticed a blur on one of my shots and could not figure out what caused it. As I was wiping off the front of my filter, there he was!

Tourism is a major source of income for their economy. In 2011, its capital city was the sixth most visited city in Europe.

The currency here is the Koruna.

Guinness Book of Records lists one of its castles as the largest ancient castle in the world by area, at over 7 hectares (70,000 m²).

Beer has been brewed here since the year 1118, the country has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world!

The most popular sports in this country are ice hockey, football, sport shooting, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and handball.

Tennis greats Martina Navratilova (18 Grand Slams) and Ivan Lendl (8 Grand Slams) are from here.

Shoot Six - "Doane's Falls"

India as noted by Michelle, Milt, Joani, Doris, Elaine, Peyton, and Mike Di.

"Doane's Falls"

Shoot Six took place just about a year ago when about a dozen photographers from Hockomock Digital spent an entire day shooting several waterfalls in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Phil's Phantastic Photo Phun was a huge success as we got to spend the day capturing one of my favorite subjects - falling water!

Our first stop was Doane's Falls in Royalston, MA. Our first crisis was the undernourished mosquitos of this natural setting. Judging by their aggressive behavior, I'm guessing they hadn't been fed in quite some time! Fortunately, we had Deedee with us and she is a human magnet for these annoying insects!

I managed to stay bitten-free and got this flow from Doane's. As for Deedee, the bug spray did not keep them away! This is what I call taking one for the team!

This island country was claimed by Spain after Christopher Columbus landed there in 1494. It then came under English rule in 1655 before gaining independence in 1962.

The longest mountain range is called the Blue Mountains. Blue Mountain Peak is the highest point on the island at 2256 metres (7402 feet).

Here they drive on the left-hand side of the road.

It exports agricultural products such as bananas, coffee and sugar.

Over one million tourists visit the island every year.

Shoot Five - " A Morning with Doug!"

Austria, it was! You guys - Elaine, Milt, Michelle, Mike Di., Joani, and Jim - are good!

"Returning Library Books"

This brief excursion with my camera was the result of a co-volunteer who offered to show me the hidden treasures of Easton. Doug had expressed an interest to show off his town (he was a former selectman) numerous times. We were finally able to coordinate our schedules for this inside look at a town where I spend much time as both my church, Holy Cross,  and my volunteer place, My Brother's Keeper, are situated there.

Doug was quick to point out the impact the Ames Family on not only Easton but also the country. Ames Shovels were instrumental in building this country. The family also helped to build the town! There are numerous instances of their generosity.

This little guy was outside of the public library. This is one building you should see if you are into architecture and/or classic libraries!
