"Hood Ornament"

I am finding it more and more difficult to shoot the classic cars parked on the fairgrounds. It may be that it has been parked too close to another one so I don't have the room or the angle for what I want to show. Or, unless I get there early, there are others with cameras or with kids in tow inspecting the vehicles up close.

Either case, I have had to rethink my strategies. I have begun to focus on the car-tifacts (items on the cars such as the hood ornaments, the chrome, the tail lights, etc.) There is such a wealth of opportunities here and you don't have to worry about distractions.

Shoot Eleven - "Custom Job!"

Merry Ol' England! Let's see, we had Jim, Milt, Peyton (all the way from NC now), Elaine, Joani, Michelle, and Mike Di. coming up with the correct country!

For the past thirty-one years (give or take one or two years) I have been driving to Stowe, VT to enjoy a week of timeshare on the Von Trapp properties. More often than not our arrival coincides with the annual VAE (Vermont Auto Enthusiasts) Car Show. Upwards of eight hundred vehicles have gathered here. I particularly like to drive through town and see the classics parked at some of the motels, restaurants and even at the local church for Mass! On Saturday afternoon around 3PM, Mountain Road is closed for the Parade of the Classics! A few years ago I discovered a spot where the background is not a distraction and the vehicles pass at warp speed of five miles per hour! Actually, when I am standing there with my tripod, a vast majority of the drivers STOP and pose!

I did make a second visit to the Paradise Gardens site and met up with two photo-mates from Stony Brook. We were also part of a larger contingent from a Boston camera club. Unfortunately, they would not be considered nature photographers as they were lighting smoke tablets on the actual petals to get a certain effect. They didn't seem bothered by the fact that they were burning the leaves!

The population of this country in 2011 was around 53 million.

Well, there will be no crying over Argentina for Michelle, Mike, Di., Joani, Doris, Jim, Elaine, and Milt!!

"This Bud's for You!

For the past five years I have been visiting a local garden spot to shoot the blooming lotus flowers. Recently there have been groups of other photographers showing up as well - my little secret is out! A drive by the establishment last week showed cones and huge construction equipment blocking the driveway with a "Closed" sign. The flowers will continue to flourish but the grounds and boardwalks may make future trips here nearly impossible and unsafe. So enjoy this bud. . .

Still in July, it's the annual New England Camera Club Council Conference at UMASS, Amherst! Here is the young woman whom I featured last week. This week she is posed for a quick exit and in full color. 

Had another photo-filled weekend this year at UMASS Amherst!
